Obama’s 2024 music list features an eclectic mix of genres and global talent. Joining Jump are standout tracks like Kendrick Lamar’s Squabble Up, Beyoncé’s Texas Hold ’Em, Asake and Travis Scott’s Active, Billie Eilish’s Lunch, and Rema’s YAYO.
Released in May 2024 as part of Tyla’s self-titled debut album, Jump has captured hearts worldwide. Produced by Sammy Soso, the song blends Afrobeats, Dancehall, and hip-hop into an infectious anthem. Its vibrant music video, directed by Nabil, takes viewers on a journey through Johannesburg, Soweto, and Kingston, Jamaica, showcasing stunning visuals and cultural richness.
The track’s success is undeniable:
- In the UK, it peaked at No. 38 on the Official Singles Chart and claimed the top spot on the UK Afrobeats Chart.
- In the U.S., it soared to No. 3 on the Billboard US Afrobeats Songs chart.
- In Canada, it reached No. 87 on the Billboard Canadian Hot 100.
By July, Jump had earned Gold certification in Canada for selling over 40,000 units. In December, it was certified Silver in the UK, having surpassed 200,000 units.
This isn’t the first time Obama has shown love for Tyla’s breakout hit. In August, he included Jump alongside Bob Marley and The Wailers’ Them Belly Full (But We Hungry) on his 2024 Summer Playlist, giving fans an early glimpse of his admiration for the track.
Obama’s annual lists have become a cultural touchstone, highlighting works that resonate with him while introducing global audiences to emerging and established talent. With Jump securing its place on his 2024 music list, Tyla, Skillibeng, and Gunna have cemented their song as one of the year’s defining hits.
