The Soca artist Yankey Boy has changed his position almost three weeks after going on a hunger strike to protest Vybz Kartel’s inclusion during Carnival Week. In a funny video posted to his verified Instagram account, Yankey Boy acted out a hostage scenario, clutching a sign that read, “I love Dancehall,” while reciting a script. He also depicted someone holding a string around his neck, a fork close to his mouth, and a pair of scissors to his head. He captioned the video, saying, “I give up. You all win.”
Kartel’s recent trip to Trinidad to introduce his Straight Vybz Rum caused Yankey Boy to reconsider his earlier belief that Kartel’s booking for the One Caribbean Festival may overshadow Trinidad’s Soca culture.
