So Mi Like It, a song from 2014, earned Queen of Dancehall Spice her first Silver certification in the UK.
The song was just given the Brit Certified Silver Award by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI), which honors sales of over 200,000 copies in the UK.
This most recent recognition comes after the song sold over 40,000 copies in Canada last month and received a Gold certification there. Spice’s defining song, the provocative hit, was recorded over the pounding Boom Box riddim created by NotNice. Other noteworthy songs on the riddim were “Gyal Bruk Out” by Alkaline and “What Is This” by Beenie Man.

So Mi Like It was first included on Spice’s 2014 self-titled debut EP and subsequently made an appearance on her studio album 10, released in 2021. The musician carefully considered whether or not to include the song on her first full-length album.
The Owner of Gracie Noir previously disclosed, “I was asked to pick one song from the past 10 years to go on the album. It was a hard decision, but ‘So Mi Like It’ just hit different.”
“You have to wine when you hear it. You have to just enjoy yourself. It gives you that burst of energy.”
Since it was posted to YouTube in January 2014, the song’s music video has had over 124 million views. Fans are still excited by the record-scratch opener, which showcases some of Spice and her dancers’ most daring acrobatics set to a thunderous riddim. Since then, Spice has developed into the prosperous siren shown in the video, complete with a continuous stay on reality TV, hair, makeup, and clothing lines, a nomination for a Grammy Award, and an uninterrupted run of hit singles.
Strangely, the artist’s financial struggles gave rise to this career-defining smash. Spice disclosed in an open Instagram post from 2020 that she was “broke AF” when she created the song.
“Home with my kids and told myself if this song don’t buss big I’m done with music. I drove to every party to get this track played myself,” Spice stated.
“I burned CDs with the little money I got and drove around to give them out. I promoted this with all I got. Big up EVERY SELECTOR. Too much to tag. I took to the streets and never looked back. God is always right on time.”
Spice eventually accepted the song’s more sexual lyrics, despite her early misgivings about it. She later attributed her success to her audacity.
“I wanted to take out “Skin out mi p— p—line so bad. I was shamed and embarrassed when I said it at first ???????????? But that f%*king line made me rich so I will be skinning out my p— p— right through bye,” the dancehall queen noted.
Spice celebrated her 25 years in the dancehall music industry with the publication of her third album, Mirror 25, earlier this month. It is a follow-up to Emancipated (2022).
