The family of Jamaican ska legend Derrick Morgan has filed a defamation lawsuit against his daughter, renowned reggae singer Queen Ifrica, over damaging allegations she made against him in 2023.
Merrick Morgan, Derrick Morgan’s son, confirmed that they have retained attorney Charles Ganga-Singh in Jamaica. The lawsuit was filed on June 12, 2024, in the Supreme Court of Jamaica, seeking damages for the ska icon’s tarnished reputation.

“We are eager to have the matter thoroughly examined in court and look forward to clearing my father’s good name from these harmful and malicious allegations,” Merrick stated.
Documents obtained by Observer Online indicate that Derrick Morgan is suing his daughter, whose real name is Ventrice Morgan, for several defamatory statements made in videos and interviews on August 1, 2023.
“The defendant made multiple defamatory statements, videos, and participated in interviews, making defamatory comments about the claimant. These statements were published and made available for public posting, reposting, and republication,” the document reads.
“As a result, the claimant has suffered serious injury to his character and reputation and has incurred financial loss and damages.”
In August, via social media, Queen Ifrica recounted that she had a strained relationship with her father during her childhood due to issues involving her mother. She mentioned that as an adult, she attempted to reconnect with him.
Queen Ifrica shared a specific incident with explicit details at Derrick Morgan’s Kingston residence, which she claimed inspired one of her hit songs. Derrick Morgan denied the allegations on Instagram at the time.
“Queen I Freak Ya, you are a disgrace to the Morgan family,” he wrote in a post. “You are full of lies and accusations, which is why our lawyers are on the case.”
