Dr. Ralph Gonsalves, Prime Minister of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines were today presented with the Order of Roraima, the second-highest honor awarded by Guyana.
The long-serving local politician was given the coveted medal by the Guyanese Head of State during a banquet this evening at State House, where he expressed his gratitude for the honor.

Ali stated, “The conferral of Guyana’s Order of Roraima is in deserved recognition of the tireless commitment and unflinching contributions which Dr. Gonsalves has made to the cause of regionalism and regional integration”, according to an announcement from the Office of the President.
The President also commended Gonsalves for his support of Guyana in defending its democracy and territorial integrity.
Gonsalves, he said, was a guy from the Caribbean who had dedicated his life to “democracy, peace, security, and development of the Caribbean.”
The Head of State also praised the other local and international citizens of Guyana who fought for “democracy, the rule of law, and freedom.” Later in the year, he promised, they will receive recognition for their services.
