As we look to celebrate the birthday of Mr. Robert Marley who was born February 6,1945, we can’t but subscribe to the relevancy of his music and his words decades after he has passed. Just recently CARIB NEWS ran an editorial on the current situation with the world wars – and that editorial was essentially Bob Marley’s song on wars and the message was so relevant today as it was decades ago when Bob Marley first composed and recorded this song; so this explains why even the younger generation of today are so keen on Bob Marley and he has remained so popular among even the young ones and essentially it talks to the truth of Bob Marley. For him the truth is everlasting and his music reflects that throughout the decades.
The popularity of Bob Marley’s reggae around the world is because Bob has focused on what can bring us together, what might be our common suffering, but how solidarity can help to overcome even though suffering, and so it’s also a message of love and unity and those are everlasting truths. Even when he faced danger and even when forces tried to quiet him, Bob Marly stood firm in his message of overcoming adversity and injustice and looking for unity, love and peace.

His unity concert in Jamaica bringing warring political forces together is symptomatic of Bob’s commitment to solidarity and unity and therein lies the power and the popularity of Bob Marley; that is why we must continue to honor his life and the world joins in this tribute because the world knows the message and understands the meaning of this message, the message of Bob Marley, that even when people are suffering they can come together and even when people are at war they must come to see each other’s humanity and that will bring about an understanding and eliminate wars. The state of the world is now very much in need of Bob Marley’s message; his message and his rich insight into the world we live in and the experience that will bring us together and for that we not only celebrate Bob Marley but we listen to his truth and abide by it.
