“I am humbled and incredibly honored to serve President Biden, our country, and the American people as U.S. Ambassador to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean,” Nyhus said.
“I look forward to bringing my Washington State and Chinook Indian Nation values to this new role and partnering closely with the seven dynamic independent nations of the Eastern Caribbean on addressing climate change, enhancing regional security, and promoting economic prosperity.”
Before starting his journey as a US Ambassador to Barbados, Nyhus established his career advocating for American businesses in fields related to the Eastern Caribbean, such as energy and sustainability, aviation, travel and tourism, telecommunications, global health and medical care, financial services, international philanthropy, seafood, and the arts.
He formerly held the positions of CEO and founder of Nyhus Communications, a marketing, advocacy, and strategic communications agency with headquarters in Seattle.
In this capacity, Ambassador Nyhus advised global business and political figures, including CEOs of Fortune 500 firms. He was raised in Westport, Washington, a little fishing community on the Pacific Ocean. As an enrolled member of the Chinook Indian Nation, he is passionate about supporting the arts and wildlife protection.
President Joe Biden nominated Nyhus in September 2022, and the U.S. Senate firmly approved it in November 2023.
