Popular dancehall artiste Popcaan, whose real name is Andre Sutherland, is now facing several charges following an incident where he directed profanity-laden remarks at police officers who had shut down his Unruly Fest in Yallahs, St. Thomas, in December for surpassing the allotted time. The charges against him include using indecent language, disorderly conduct, employing abusive and calumnious language, issuing threats to police officers, and violating the Noise Abatement Act.
When law enforcement officers took the stage during Popcaan’s performance to convey that the event had gone beyond the permitted time, a senior police officer, despite allowing an additional hour, insisted that it was time for Popcaan and other artists to conclude their performances, emphasizing that the event should have concluded at 4 a.m.
