The principles of Christmas—peace, love, and goodwill among men—are urged to be displayed by Barbadians throughout the year.
Dame Sandra Mason, the president of Barbados, made this appeal on Wednesday during her speech at the Salvation Army Christmas Hamper Distribution, which took place at their offices on Reed Street in Bridgetown.

“Need has no season,” Dame Mason told the people in attendance. She emphasized that Christmas values shouldn’t be limited to the holiday season.
Dame Mason stated “I grew up in an era where we didn’t know we were poor because we were neighborly. If my family had a breadfruit too many, the rest of the neighbors had a breadfruit. Nowadays you have to buy breadfruit, you have to buy everything.”
She added, “I think unfortunately Barbados has gotten to that stage where we are out there just looking to grab, and we have become not neighborly.”
“We need to understand that at all times of our lives, we need to be good neighbors. And as the Salvation Army has been teaching for generations, we should be of service to our fellow man. We shouldn’t only be looking at Christmas time to give something,” she further added.
The Salvation Army’s Bridgetown headquarters recently gave 2,000 hampers to the least fortunate. They will disperse an extra 2,000 at their locations around the island.
