The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) joins other responsible members of the international community in demanding an immediate cessation of hostilities and an end to attacks by all parties, calling the attacks in Israel and the retaliations in the Palestinian territory of Gaza “the antithesis of civilized life and living.”
Caricom noted in a recent statement, “Innocent lives are being lost amidst the fervor and violence of the actual combatants.”
The organization noted, “The recent round of hostilities reflects the pain and suffering of ancient quarrels. The ongoing harsh conditions under which the Palestinians live in veritable colonialism and Israel’s sense of insecurity will contribute to a cycle of violence until those realities are definitively addressed.”
As a result, CARICOM stated that the best approach to establish total peace, security, and tranquility between Israel and Palestine is through the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 242 and continued UN efforts toward a two-state solution.
