CASTRIES, St Lucia (CMC) — Observer missions from the United States, the United Kingdom and the European Union will be here for the upcoming general election.

This was disclosed by Cabinet Secretary Darrel Montrope, who told reporters that the United States, the United Kingdom and the European Union have all requested observer status and have been granted approval.

The Cabinet secretary said he did not yet know when the delegations will arrive here.

However, he said the Electoral Department and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are expected to accommodate them.

“I think each of them might have sent one name, as far as I am aware,” Montrope said of the of the composition of the observer teams.

One week ago, the opposition United Workers Party (UWP) expressed concern at the silence of the Government on the issue of official observers being invited to oversee the election process in the lead-up to the June 6 general elections.
